Would you all be grossed out if I told you I haven't put shampoo in my hair for a few months? Well, I haven't. I have been shampoo free for almost three months now. Along with this method being very beneficial to my health (http://www.naturemoms.com/no-shampoo-alternative.html) it also cuts down on the waste leaving my house. Think of all the plastic I'm helping keep out of land fills. Plus it's super cheap to do. Do you wanna spend all that money on a detergent for your hair? My hair looks in no way like I haven't washed it in three months- because I have. What do I use? Baking soda and apple cider vinegar. For the 'shampoo' I mix 1 tablespoon of baking soda with 1 cup of water. And for 'conditioner' I use 1 tablespoon ACV with 1 cup of water.
This is what works for me. If your hair starts to get dry use less baking soda. If it gets too greasy use less ACV. Some people go through a transition period where there hair gets super greasy when starting this- that is completely normal and will pass. DO NOT use commercial shampoo during this period. I store my shampoo and conditioner in old washed out jars but you can do what ever works for you.
This is one of the things I really want to try. I have super oily hair so I have been afraid. Thanks for the tip...maybe someday I will get brave and do it!
ReplyDeleteDo it!! its super easy and i love it!
ReplyDeleteI've been doing this for the past 6 weeks now too! It took me a while to finally muster up the courage to try it, and now that I have, I'll never go back to commercial shampoos/conditioners ever again. I've been putting off getting around to blogging about this, but I think in another week or so, I'll finally sit down and get my thoughts down.
ReplyDeleteI still can't believe we never thought of this before - and it's cheap, easy, and just all around better for your hair and the environment. Win, win, and WIN! :)
How do you know how much to use each time and how do you know if it's gotten your hair/scalp completely covered?
ReplyDeleteyou use the whole mixture that i explaned how to make. and i normaly splash a little on top behind each ear and then on the length of my hair then scrub my nails into my scalp.
DeleteMy suggestion would be always go for best products!!!
ReplyDeleteI think someday I'll dare myself to try this lol do you put it on and not wash it off??
